Here are the Broncos’ biggest Pro Bowl snubs
The NFL announced its rosters for the 2024 Pro Bowl on Wednesday and the Denver Broncos will be represented by three starters on the AFC team: cornerback Pat Surtain, safety Justin Simmons and returner Marvin Mims.
In addition to those three starters, the Broncos also have a pair of third alternates in guard Quinn Meinerz and fullback Michael Burton. If multiple guards and fullbacks drop out of the flag football game, Meinerz and Burton could be added to the roster in the coming weeks.
So, who are Denver’s biggest Pro Bowl snubs this year? The biggest one is Meinerz, who deserved more than an alternate nod, and the second most notable snub is wide receiver Courtland Sutton.
Sutton did not rank high in receptions or receiving yards this season, but he pulled off some of the best catches of the season and scored 10 touchdowns, tied for third-most in the NFL this year.
Here’s a quick look at all of the Broncos’ Pro Bowl snubs and honorable mentions from the 2023 season.
Snub: OG Quinn Meinerz
PFF credits Meinerz for allowing two sacks this season. His overall grade (83.4) ranks third among guards and No. 1 among guards in the AFC. Meinerz went viral on more than one occasion for his extracurricular blocking, and there’s no doubt that he ranks among the league’s best at his position. Mienerz is a third alternate, but he should have made the first-team as the AFC’s top guard.
Snub: WR Courtland Sutton
Sutton’s ten receiving touchdowns this season are tied for third-most in the NFL and second-most in the AFC. Only Tyreek Hill (12) and Mike Evans (13) have hauled in more touchdown catches this season.
Honorable mention: CB Ja'Quan McMillian
McMillian emerged as a key member of Denver’s secondary this season, taking over slot duties in October. The play-making defensive back has seven tackles behind the line of scrimmage, five pass breakups, three quarterback hits, two interceptions, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries this season.
Honorable mention: ILB Alex Singleton
Singleton can be a liability in coverage at times, but his 164 tackles this season rank fourth in the NFL and third in the AFC. He’s a tackling machine.
Honorable mention: LT Garett Bolles
Bolles allowed just two sacks this year, according to PFF. His overall grade (77.4) ranks 15th among offensive tackles and seventh among AFC tackles (fifth among left tackles in the conference).
Honorable mention: C Lloyd Cushenberry
Cushenberry has not allowed a single sack this season, according to PFF. His overall grade of 73.2 ranks ninth in the NFL and fifth among AFC centers this season, according to PFF. Cushenberry is about to get a big contract in free agency this spring.
Honorable mention: K Wil Lutz
Lutz ranks fifth in the AFC with 30 made field goals this season and ninth in the conference with a 88.2% conversion rate. Lutz has also had 88.5% of his kickoffs go for touchbacks this season, fifth-best in the NFL and third-best in the AFC.
