Brewers' Weeks out with hamstring strain

The MIlwaukee Brewers, hit hard by injuries this season, added second baseman Rickie Weeks to the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, the team announted Thursday night.

Weeks, 30, sustained the injury while running to first base on a ground ball in the eighth inning of Thursday afternoon's game against the San Francisco Giants.

According to the MIlwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Weeks said he felt a pop in the leg. Test results were not available yet to determine the extent of the injury.

Weeks is struggling through this season, hitting .209 with 10 home runs and 24 RBIs in 104 games.

Scooter Gennett is expected to assume the bulk of the playing time at second while Weeks is out. Gennett has played in 22 games this season for the Brewers and is batting .231 with one homer and five RBIS in 52 at-bats.

Among the injured Brewers this year are third baseman Amaris Ramirez and outfielder Ryan Braun before he was suspended by Major League Baseball last month.
