The word was that Miami was offering Cristobal a massive contract that would likely be north of $8 million per season, and give him a large budget for a coaching staff.
Meanwhile, the Ducks were not just sitting idly by. Cristobal was reportedly offered a contract extension in Eugene that rivaled some deals recently signed by Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly. It was rumored to be a deal that was big enough to keep Cristobal in Eugene for the foreseeable future and indicate to prospective schools that he is off-limits in future coaching carousels.
