Arkansas LB Drew Sanders selected in 2023 NFL Draft

The first Arkansas player has been picked in the 2023 NFL Draft. Razorback linebacker Drew Sanders was selected by the Denver Broncos in the third round at No. 67 overall.

The Denton, Texas native spent three seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide before transferring to Arkansas and Sam Pittman last January. In his lone season in Fayetteville, Sanders made a case for being one of the most talented linebackers to ever don an Arkansas jersey. In 2022, he appeared in 12 games and recorded 103 total tackles (40 solo tackles), 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception.

As a pass rusher, he showed a knack for getting into the backfield on a defense that struggled all season. On top of his 9.5 sacks, Sanders recorded 39 total QB pressures, 25 QB hurries and three QB hits.

Sanders is the highest Arkansas linebacker selected since Quinton Caver was selected in the second round (No. 55 overall) by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2001. He’s also the first Arkansas linebacker selected since Dre Greenlaw was selected in the fifth round (No. 148 overall) by San Francisco in 2019.

Arkansas still has Ricky Stromberg, Matt Landers, Jadon Haselwood and Dalton Wagner left as possible picks in this year’s NFL Draft.
