Braves activate promising Soroka (shoulder) off DL

The Atlanta Braves activated 20-year-old right-hander Mike Soroka from the 10-day disabled list and he started Wednesday's game against the New York Mets.

The right-hander missed the last month due to shoulder inflammation.

Soroka, who is 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA in three starts, is considered Atlanta's top pitching prospect.

His last start was against the Miami Marlins on May 12. He felt soreness in the shoulder after the outing and informed team officials and was placed on the DL.

"It was tough," Soroka told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "First and foremost, I'm happy to be back and happy they're giving me the ball. ...

"It was a different experience, but lots of guys helped me through that. Lots of guys have spent more time on the DL than I have. They calmed me down about the whole thing, and I knew this day would come again soon."

Soroka made two rehab starts for Triple-A Gwinnett and allowed one run and three hits and struck out 10 in 10 innings.

The Braves designated right-hander Luke Jackson for assignment to open up a roster spot. Jackson had a 5.06 ERA in four appearances.
