Brady Russell on John Mackey Award watch list

Brady Russell, Colorado’s leading receiver from a year ago, is back on the John Mackey watch list for the second consecutive year. The annual award is given to the nation’s best tight end.

Playing in all 12 games last season, Russell accumulated 307 receiving yards while also leading the Buffs in yards after catch (223) — a rare feat for his position. If Russell wins the John Mackey, he’d become the first Buff since Daniel Graham in 2001 to do so.

There’s also a good chance that Russell earns another nomination for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the most outstanding college football player who began his career as a walk-on.
