Boys track: 14 individuals, 6 relay teams from Rockford area win medals at state

It was another strong showing by the Rockford-area contingent at the IHSA boys state track and field finals in Charleston on Saturday, led by four state-championship performances.

"This is basically the greatest feeling you can have in high school track and field: winning a state tile," said junior Supreme Muhammad, who took first in the Class 1A 200-meter dash and placed second in the 100 dash.

Muhammad and 13 other individuals and six relay teams from the area earned medals this past weekend.

The top nine finishers in each event earn medals.

Supreme Muhammad, Winnebago (1st and 2nd)

Muhammad pulled off a second-place run with a time of 11.03 in the Class 1A 100-meter dash, but then returned to the blue track to win the 200 dash in a time of 21.60. He was also the anchor for Winnebago's sprint relay crews.

Max Milbrath, Durand/Pecatonica (1st and 4th)

Milbrath soared to the state title in the 1A triple jump with a flight of 13.67 meters, and he also placed fourth in the long jump after flying 6.37.

Evan Horgan, Belvidere North (1st)

Horgan had the No. 1 seed in 3A in the 3,200 run headed into state, and he held serve, clocking a time of 9:05.98 to win the state title.

Forreston's 4x100 (1st), 4x400 (4th) and 4x200 relay (5th)

Comprised of De'Angelo Fernandez, McKeon Crase, Noah Dewey and Michael Taylor, the Forreston 400-relay crew won first place with a time of 42.91. The same grouping also placed fifth in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:30.00, while the team of Crase, Dewey, Micah Nelson and Brock Soltow placed fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:26.85.

Vontez Dent, Lutheran (2nd)

Dent surprised many by soaring up the ladder, taking second in the 1A triple jump with a flight of 13.48.

Lena-Winslow's 4x100 (3rd) and 4x200 (8th)

The Panthers' crew of Alec Schlichting, Jace Flynn, Jaylen Rakowska and Nick Inden reeled off a time of 43.16 to finish in third place in the 4x100 relay showdown. The same foursome took eighth in the 4x200 with a time of 1:30.94.

Bjorn Carlson, Rockford Christian (4th)

Carlson ran a time of 50.01 in the 400 finals to place fourth.

Weston Forward, Rockford Christian (4th)

Forward placed fourth with a time of 9:25.70 in the 3,200 run.

Winnebago 4x200 relay (4th)

Anchored by Muhammad, and including Brandon Wiggan, Eden Trotter-Krahn and Nathan Lyons, the Winnebago 4x200 relay crew placed fourth with a time of 1:29.66.

Camden Rosche, Rockford Christian (5th)

After finishing 11th and out of the medals in the shot put, Rosche took fifth in the 1A discus with a throw of 46.68.

Rasheed Johnson, Boylan (5th)

Johnson poured it on to earn fifth in the 100 dash with a time of 11.17 as a junior.

Gage Dunker, Lena-Winslow (6th)

Dunker finished just ahead of his teammate in the final 1A shot put standings, taking sixth with a throw of 15.74.

Henry Engel, Lena-Winslow (7th)

Engel earned seventh in 1A shot put with a throw of 15.55.

KeShawn Harrington-McKinney, Harlem (8th)

Harrington/McKinney threw the shot 16.66 to take eighth in 3A, after finishing just out of the medals, in 13th, in the discus.

Kacen Johnson, Milledgeville (8th)

Johnson placed eighth in the 110-high hurdles in 1A with a time of 15.80.

Carson Buser, Byron (8th)

This local thrower placed eighth in the 1A high jump with a clearance of 1.85.

Aidan Sosnowski, Rockford Christian (9th)

Sosnowski clocked a 1:57.92 in the 800 run to finish ninth.
