Boys swimming: Ottumwa finishes third in Iowa Alliance meet

Jan. 22—AMES — Jonathan Miller brought home an Iowa Alliance Conference championship for the Ottumwa High School boys swimming team, breaking the meet record in the 100-yard backstroke in 54.41 seconds.

Miller, Ashton Gevock, Nathan Calhoun and Cameron Manary collected all-conference medals in seven different events. The Bulldogs finished third overall out of nine teams in Iowa Alliance Conference meet, scoring 189 points at Dan Flannery Pool.

Besides winning the conference title in the backstroke, Miller also secured all-conference honors in the 200-yard individual medley finishing third in 2:06.8. Miller joined Gevock, Calhoun and Manary to earn medals finishing second in the 200 medley relay in 1:42.24 and the 200-yard free relay in 1:33.3.

Manary secured an individual all-conference medal in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing second in 52.54 seconds. Gevock earned third-place all-conference medals for Ottumwa in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.31 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.41.

The Ottumwa boys swimming team will return to Ames to compete in the state qualifying meet on Saturday, Feb. 3.
