Boys roundup: Lincoln dials in, beats Jacksonville; Carlinville, Gillespie, Beardstown, Calvary win
After freezing rain canceled nearly all the local high school sporting events in central Illinois on Monday, the boys basketball action resumed on Tuesday. Here are those results:
LINCOLN 56, JACKSONVILLE 45: At The Bowl in Jacksonville, Lincoln outscored the Crimsons 32-16 in the second and third quarters and recorded a nonconference victory on Tuesday.
Behind Milan Krusic’s three 3-pointers, Jacksonville led 16-10 after one period until Lincoln (16-7) got back in it. The Railers nailed a pair of 3s in the second period and took a 27-25 lead at halftime.
Lincoln then outscored the Crimsons 15-7 in the third quarter and had a 42-32 lead heading into the final period.
Drew Hayes drained two 3s and led Lincoln with 16 points, while teammate Trey Schilling was 3-for-5 from long distance and scored 11. Karson Komnick and Ki’on Carson combined for 14 second-half points, and the two ended with eight apiece.
Isaiah Martinez put in three 3s in the second half and provided Jacksonville (11-12) with 15 points. Krusic finished 4-for-7 from 3-point range and concluded with 12 points, and Ryan McCombs chipped in nine points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Lincoln avenged a 51-43 home loss to Jacksonville in a CS8 game on Dec. 8.
CARLINVILLE 55, LUTHERAN 51: At Lutheran, Sawyer Smith poured in a game-high 21 points and the Cavaliers won a nonconference game.
Ten of Smith’s points came in the first period, and he finished with two 3-pointers. Cam Naugle went 5-for-7 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and added 11 points, and Triston Thompson dialed up two 3s and chipped in nine for Carlinville (10-12).
Parker Cloyd and Torry Kistner registered 16 points apiece to pace Lutheran (8-12). Cloyd scored 10 in the first half, including making two 3s.

GILLESPIE 63, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 43: At Gillespie, Jack Kaylor made 11 field goals and delivered a game-high 24 points to lead the Miners to a nonconference win.
Gillespie led by eight points after each quarter before outscoring EAWR 19-7 in the fourth. Bryce Hohnsbehn contributed 11 points to the Miners’ cause.
Malyk Spiller buried four 3-pointers in the second half, scoring all his team-high 16 points after halftime for the Oilers.
BEARDSTOWN 52, CONCORD TRIOPIA 45: At Concord, Isaac Brockschmidt and Elizah Thomas combined for six 3-pointers and 33 points to lead the Tigers in a nonconference game.
Brockschmidt led a fourth-quarter charge after Beardstown trailed 36-32 at the end of the third. He made three 3s in the fourth period and scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half. Thomas was 5-for-8 at the free-throw line in the fourth and finished with two treys and 15 points. Rylan Alhorn recorded nine points and 10 rebounds for Beardstown (15-6).
Evan Bell made three field goals from long distance and scored 14 points to lead Triopia.
CALVARY 58, LITCHFIELD 55: At Litchfield, Luke Blackford scored 22 points while Joshua Long and Connor Brown combined for 27 as the Saints pulled out a road nonconference win.
Blackford began with a six-point first quarter before pouring in 10 in the second to give Calvary a 35-29 halftime lead.
Long, who knocked down three 3-pointers — as did Blackford — scored five of his 15 points in the fourth after Litchfield regained a lead heading into the fourth. Brown scored all 12 of his points on six field goals.
Calvary (16-6) made nine 3s.

A.J. Odle led Litchfield with a game-high 24 points. He had 13 of his points in the third as the Purple Panthers (15-10) outscored the Saints 20-15 to lead 49-48 at the final turn.
