BOYS GOLF: Claremore secures third-place finish in Tahlequah Invitational

Apr. 5—Claremore's three-tournament winning streak came to an end Wednesday, but it still put forth a commendable performance.

The Zebras took third of 20 teams with a score of 326 in the Tahlequah Invitational at Cherry Springs Golf Club, and their B-team finished 14th with a 398. Oologah also competed in the tournament, finishing 11th after shooting a 373.

McAlester claimed the team crown with a 312 score, while Poteau secured second place at 323.

Claremore sophomore Jack Williams continued his dominant play, placing third of 104 golfers after shooting a 75. His performance was marked by a mixed bag on the front 9, managing three birdies alongside two bogeys.

He faced significant challenges on the back 9, though, achieving only one birdie to four bogeys, finishing 3-over-par overall.

Connor Whitworth of Poteau won the individual title, using three birdies on the back 9 to shoot a 72.

Tripp Jackson, a junior, came in 13th with an 82, and senior Landon Tah notched the team's third-highest score despite being the 5-bag, shooting an 84. Fellow senior Gage Hall followed closely with an 85 to place 23rd, and Connor Burton closed out the Zebras' scoring with an 88.

Cameron Braswell, a senior, and junior Alex Countryman led the Claremore B-team with identical scores of 96, placing 58th and 60th, respectively, with the tiebreaker. Tristan Fuller (100), freshman Caden Hester (106) and senior Kynden Stone (111) rounded out the team.

For the Mustangs, senior Brady Evans led the way with an 88 for 29th place. Jaxon Lustig, a junior, followed in 54th place with a 95, and senior Jaden Henry finished 57th.

Sophomore Henry Barron (98) and junior Tomy Dark (109) concluded Oologah's scoring efforts.

The Zebra linksmen return to action Monday, April 8, in the Class 5A State Preview at Winter Creek Golf & Country Club in Blanchard.
