BOYS BASKETBALL
Division I
Hendricken 68, Portsmouth 63
The Patriots were trailing by as much as 20 points in the first half and stormed back in the second to make it a 3-point game with 2 minutes to play. But the Hawks (12-3) held on, thanks to big performances from James Calderella (25 points), Will Mascena (11 points) and Michael D'Ambra (10 points). For Portsmouth (9-6), Adam Conheeney scored 24 of his game-high 30 points in the second half and Kyle Bielawa added 18, with 15 coming in the second half.
Barrington 68, Mount Pleasant 35
Nick Scandura had a game-high 16 points and Owen Pfeffer chipped in with 11 as the Eagles continued to soar, winning their 15th league game against only one loss. Carlos Cabrera and Ben Mordan each had 10 points for the Kilties, now 5-12.
La Salle 69, Narragansett 46
Twenty-two points by Rex Zadrozny propelled the Rams to their 14th win in 16 games. Eight teammates got on the scoreboard for La Salle, but none of them reached double figures. Owen Degnan knocked in 20 points for the Mariners, who sink to 6-10.
East Providence 66, East Greenwich 43
Levis Jacobs scored 22 points and Kenaz Ochgwu was right behind with 20 as they led the Townies, now 11-6, to a win over the Avengers. Rees Maccarone led all scorers with 28 points and Dante Desmarais had 10 for EP, now 3-13.
Cumberland 81, Cranston East 58
The Clippers offense was running in top gear with four players reaching double-figures. Hunter Zancan scored 17 points, Joe Parenteau added 13, Connor Allard had 12 and Dylan Briere added 11. The win moves Cumberland to 10-6 in league play. For the Thunderbolts (2-14), Mohammed Gueye scored 17 points and Al Kesse added 12.
Smithfield 67, Central 51
The Sentinels started fast and never slowed down, taking a commanding 39-21 lead at the break and maintaining their edge until the final buzzer. Shaun Dwyer led Smithfield (7-9) with 13 points and CJ Blakely had 12. For the Knights (5-11), Ma'khi Richardson netted a game-high 14 points and Elijah Reed added 13.
Division II
Rogers 49, Pilgrim 41
Four players — Travis Burroughs, Miles Ventura, David Rivera and Cisco Aponte — finished with 8 points apiece and that balance carried the Vikings to a victory over the Patriots. The win was the 12th in 17 games for Rogers. Mike Masse had 12 points and Dylan Vale had 10 for Pilgrim, now 7-9.
Tolman 81, South Kingstown 70
John Hilaire scored 26 points with four 3s, Malik Gelinas had 23 and knocked down five treys as Tolman moved to 15-2 with a win over South Kingstown. Jonah Monnes had 18 points for the Rebels, including four from beyond the arc, and Griffin Sward had 17 in the loss. SK falls to 10-7 in the division.
Johnston 59, Chariho 47
Branden Testa was the game's high scorer with 20 points, NeAri Vasquez contributed 16 and Cam Walker added 10 as the Panthers improved their record to 13-4. Owen Apice led the Chargers with 17 points; Mason Cabida added 13 and Chris Kozlosky had 12, for Chariho, now 4-13.
Lincoln 77, Mt. Hope 65
Camden DiChiara paced the Lions with 35 points, Wayne McNamara added 16 points and Josh Bergeron had 13 as Lincoln rolled to its 16h league win (20-0 overall). For the Huskies (4-13), Lucas Andreozzi had a team-high 31 points
Division III
Juanita Sanchez 58, Paul Cuffee 47
Kyle Delves scored 23 points and Taurean Williams found the range for 15 as the Cavaliers upended the Navigators.
Mount St. Charles 56, Exeter/West Greenwich 39
Tyler Dias had the hot hand with 26 points, including seven 3-point field goals, five of which came in the first half, as the Mounties knocked off the Scarlet Knights. Also contributing to the win was Michael Hebert with 13 points. Kole Kilduff topped EWG in scoring with 16 points, including three treys.
Achievement First Providence 52, Block Island 42
The Falcons had three players reach double-digits as they recorded their first win of the season. Steven Rodriguez netted a team-high 16 points, Fred Browne added 13 and Steven Adedire had 12. For Block Island (0-14), Justin Cullen scored a game-high 18 points in the loss.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Division II
Mt. Hope 64, Mount Pleasant 49
The Huskies used a balance offensive attack in this Division II showdown. Lillian DaSilveira led all scorers with 19 points, Emily Moran added 17, Madison Butterworth had 14 and Elsa White added 10. For the Kilties, Ameera Quinones had 15 and Shyonna Hall added 13.
Division III
Toll Gate 47, Lincoln 46
Lauren Cipriano scored 25 points, including the 1,000th in her high school career, but it was not enough as Dulce Garcia hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 5 seconds as the Titans won. Dulce finished with 17 points. Adeline Areson finished with a double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds for Toll Gate, now 9-7. Lincoln slips to 8-9.
Division IV
Davies 38, Block Island 12
Capitalizing on the double-double by Aniyah Gomes, the Patriots pushed their record to 15-1 as they ran past Block Island. Gomes scored 13 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the win. Davies also got help from Maddie Belanger and Naydelin Ruiz, who each scored 8 points, and JoJo Ali, who added 7. Bailey Payne topped the Hurricanes with 6 points and Juliana Jaramilo scored 5.
