Boys basketball: Rivalry games highlight weekend on the hardwood

Nov. 30—Sports fans are coming off Rivalry Week for NCAA football. Now local boys basketball fans can gear up for some rivalry action on the basketball courts this weekend.

Batesville at Greensburg

The Pirates host rival Batesville Friday. Both teams are 1-0 on the young season.

Greensburg opened with a 49-46 victory over Yorktown. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 69-39 win over Jac-Cen-Del.

Greensburg has had Batesville's number in recent years, winning the last 11 games between the two rivals. The last win for the Bulldogs came in the 2019 sectional.

In the first AP poll of the season, Greensburg is ranked No. 6 in Class 3A and Batesville is No. 10.

Greensburg will celebrate the 2013 and 2014 IHSAA State Champion boys basketball teams at the game. Players and cheerleaders from both teams will be recognized between the junior varsity and varsity games.

ND at SD

South Decatur host county rival North Decatur Friday in the two team's first meeting of the season. The Cougars travel to North Jan. 12.

The Cougars opened the season with a 71-68 win at Trinity Lutheran. The Chargers have yet to take the floor in the regular season due to the success of the football team.

North has won the last four meetings with South. Prior to that, the Cougars won four straight over the Chargers.

Rushville at Connersville

The Lions (0-1) travel to Connersville (1-1) Friday. Rushville head coach Kerry Brown returns to guide the Lions. Coach Brown most recently was the head coach at Connersville.

Under Coach Brown, the Spartans had three straight 18-win seasons in his final three years. Connersville won three sectionals under Coach Brown's guidance.

The Lions opened the season with a loss at Shelbyville. Connersville posted a 54-39 win over Union County before falling to Delta 53-42.

Rushville travels to former HHC foe New Palestine Saturday.
