Boyne City volleyball tops Mancelona Invite, Petoskey runs in Portage

MANCELONA — Add another tournament title for the Boyne City volleyball team.

After opening the season with an overall win in Pellston, then adding multiple quad sweeps, the Ramblers traveled to Mancelona over the weekend and earned a first place title following a 9-1 day.

The title game win came over Johannesburg-Lewiston for the Ramblers, with Boyne City coach Tyla Coates happy to see her team rebound after a tough loss earlier in the week.

“We needed this. We wanted it,” said Coates. “From our first game of the day I knew it was going to be a great day. Our communication, defense and smart plays really helped us pull it together. The girls did so good working with each other and this group is just a happy going group who’s there to win but have fun too.”
