Bonzi Wells has stepped down as LeMoyne-Owen men's basketball coach to join the staff at Georgia Tech, the school announced Tuesday.

Wells, 46, and Georgia Tech coach Damon Stoudamire were teammates with the Portland Trail Blazers during their NBA playing careers.

"I am extremely grateful for LeMoyne-Owen College and my athletics director William Anderson," Wells said in a school release. "He gave me such a great opportunity."

The LeMoyne-Owen Magicians, who compete in Division II, were 34-22 overall in Wells' two seasons (23-16 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play). They are still the only men's college basketball program in the state of Tennessee to win a NCAA national title (1975, Division III).
