Bomb City Brawl VI sees lots of local boxing talent go off

Not everything went according to plan during Bomb City Brawl VI, but one thing that did was that all in attendance got one heck of a show.

Saturday night saw six fights go down at Azteca Music Hall with a slew of local boxers taking part. That's two fewer than originally planned and three fewer than they hoped, but the quality of the six that went down more than made up for those that didn't happen.

The night started with Guymon, Oklahoma fighter Bryant Montalvo taking on Daniel Wright with Wright taking home a victory by decision. The evening kept going with a pair of out-of-towners as El Paso's Giovanni Muniz took on Denver's Genesis Wynn. Wynn treated the crowd to a show, winning by TKO in Round 3.

Something that Bomb City Brawl V didn't have was a female fight. This time, Isabel Garcia and Maria Garcia put on a show worth two fights with one of the best bouts of the night. The fight went all four rounds and the judges couldn't pick a winner with a split draw being ruled. That was probably the way it was meant to be.

A local product followed that fight up with his pro debut as Hereford grad Prici Ruelas of Texas Elite Fight Club took on Ashton Royal of Omaha, Texas. Ruleas couldn't get the knockout, but if sure felt like he did as he was dominant throughout winning by unanimous decision.

"This feels good," Ruelas said to the crowd after the fight. "Huge thanks to all the sponsors who made this possible and everyone who helped me get ready. I'm going to be here a long time so this was the first of many."

Longtime Amarillo resident Darius Battles of Legends Boxing then put his undefeated record on the line against New Mexico's Sterling Peak. While Peak had control early, the Judges ruled the fight was a majority draw with one even saying Battles won the fight.

Gustavo Torres was set to make his pro debut while Emmanuel Saenz was supposed compete in his third professional fight after winning by TKO at Bomb City Brawl V. Neither of their opponents showed up to weigh-in, however, resulting in both their fights being canceled. They promised the crowd that they would be back in the ring soon.

That all led to the final bout of the evening. Amarillo's Mobley Villegas of Nick's Fight Club took part in his first bout in two years taking on Gene Perez. Villegas showed no sign of ring rust as he won by TKO in the third round.
