Bobby Dalbec finds himself in a 'really good spot' at the plate right now for the WooSox

WORCESTER — Bobby Dalbec finds himself in a good place at the plate right now.

Since being optioned to Worcester from Boston on May 16, Dalbec has 10 homers in 19 games for the WooSox.

“He’s hitting a lot of home runs, obviously, and he’s getting hits, too, and he’s getting walks, and he’s getting on base,” WooSox manager Chad Tracy said Tuesday. “He’s just constantly on base. … He’s in a really good spot.”

After hitting a 515-foot home run at Polar Park on May 19, Dalbec delivered a walk-off single two days later in the first game of a doubleheader with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Prior to Worcester’s nightcap of the twin bill, Dalbec received some advice from teammate Niko Goodrum as the 27-year-old slugger took hacks in the batting cage.

“(We) just cleaned some posture stuff up,” Dalbec said. “... (Niko) was just honest with me and (I) cleaned it up.”

“Since that point, he’s taken off,” Tracy said.

Prior to Worcester’s 11-6 loss to the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday, Dalbec was batting .306 with 14 homers and 35 RBIs across 41 games. He’s tied for fourth in the International League in homers and is tied for eighth in on-base percentage (.431), fourth in slugging (.653) and fourth in OPS (1.084).

On Sunday, Red Sox manager Alex Cora was asked if Dalbec was under consideration for a promotion due to his recent hot streak.

“Where we’re at roster-wise, this is who we have,” Cora said. “We’re glad that he’s doing well — not only hitting for power, but (also) hitting for average. But roster-wise, right now, this is who we have.”

The last time Dalbec felt this comfortable at the plate was during the second half of the season with the Red Sox in 2021.

During that span, Dalbec hit .269 with 15 homers and 42 RBIs for Boston.

Dalbec, who was selected as Boston’s Minor League Offensive Player of the Month for May, belted 25 homers for the Red Sox in 2021 and was a regular in the Boston lineup each of the past two years. He appeared in 117 games for the Red Sox in 2022 and 133 games in 2021 while clouting 37 home runs over the two seasons.

Across two call-ups to Boston this season, Dalbec made just 13 plate appearances in eight games. He went 2 for 11 with two walks.

With Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom in attendance for Worcester’s game Tuesday, does Dalbec think his recent performance at the plate can get him another call-up to the big club?

“I can’t control any of that stuff,” Dalbec said. “Just trying to be consistent wherever I’m at every day.”

“He’s in a good place right now,” Tracy said.
