Much like the temperature outside, the stakes are rising for boys golf teams in the Blue Water Area.

The 2023 MHSAA regionals concluded Saturday. All teams participated, regardless of how they fared in the regular season.

Qualification for the state finals is broken down into two categories — team qualifiers and individual qualifiers.

In each regional, the three teams with the lowest composite scores advance. However, athletes on these teams cannot qualify as individuals. Therefore, the three golfers with the lowest scores from non-qualifying teams advance as well.

Here are the local teams and individuals that'll compete at the state finals, which are scheduled for June 9-10.

Division 1

Luke Maher, Port Huron Northern: The senior shot a 79 at Currie Golf Club West in Midland on Thursday. Maher's score was tied for the second-lowest among eligible individuals in Region 4. He also placed eighth out of 95 participants. The Division 1 state finals will be held at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University in Allendale.
