Monday's 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins could have been a glimpse of the future for the Toronto Blue Jays.
All three are rookies hoping to earn a spot on next season's team, and Monday's performance did not hurt their chances.
"They're making the most of their opportunity," manager John Farrell said. "We can't sit here today and make out next year's 25-man roster. But the exposure, the experience that all the guys coming up here for the first time like that (receive) is invaluable.
"And as we've stated many times, the pennant race, the wild-card race, has provided settings, game situations, big moments that each ... gained very good experience in."
Gomes, a catcher by trade, has enhanced his value since spring training by playing first base, third base and the outfield and showing that he is a quick learner in those spots.
Gose, who appears to be the club's center fielder of the future, has been playing in left field because that is where the most likely opening in the outfield will be next year.
Hechavarria, a natural shortstop, has proved his usefulness at third and second this season in his brief stint in the majors.
"I've had a whole season, so I don't think the last couple of games are going to decide whether I'm going to be here or not (next year)," Gomes said.
But if it's most important how you finish, all three gave their chances a boost Monday.
