Bloomington area high school sports roundup for Feb. 5-10

Here's a quick look at the Bloomington area's high school sporting events for the week of Feb. 5-10:

Saturday, Feb, 10

Boys' basketball

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 70, EVANSVILLE REITZ 39: The Cougars (9-11) must have been stewing after Friday's stinging road loss and took it out on the Panthers from Evansville (8-10), holding them to a season low. It was 42-12 at halftime. Luke Lindeman has 26 points, Jalen Williams 13 and Connor O’Guinn 11 for North.

BLOOMFIELD 49, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 42: The Panthers (11-9) got off to a good start, leading 13-7 after one quarter. And while the defensive effort remained solid, the offense never got going as the Cards (9-11) beat South for the second year in a row. Blake Neill had 24 points as Bloomfield went 17-of-18 at the line.

VINCENNES RIVET 56, LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 54: Lions (6-11) fall on the road in their first game since Jan. 27.

PAOLI 48, EASTERN GREENE 47: T-Birds (4-15) play tough against the Rams (14-4) on the road.

ORLEANS 46, EDGEWOOD 36: The 1A No. 3 Bulldogs made things tough on the Mustangs (10-11), who committed 17 turnovers and fell behind 23-15 by halftime. Kam Ranard had 10 points, Jacob Boggs nine, Carson Huttenlocker eight. Mialin White was held to two points with four assists.

Gymnastics

BLOOMINGTON NORTH INVITATIONAL: The Cougars posted a season best 107.9 to win the five-team event and top Seymour 95.5, Owen Valley 94.675, New Palestine 92.25 and Martinsville 64.25, which had just two gymnasts. Cougars scored a 26+ on each event, including three 9s for a 28.2 on floor. Sofie Garcia (37.175) and Jessica Floyd (35.075) go 1-2 in the all-around. Martinsville's Gabby Grubb was third (33.875) and OV's Dakota Worthington fifth (32.225). Garcia won beam (career best 9.625), vault (9.15), bars (8.925) and was second on floor (9.425) to Floyd (9.625).

CONNERSVILLE INVITATIONAL: Bloomington South scored a 101.925 to take second to Columbus North. Maddie Kawanishi was third in the all-around, third on bars, fifth on beam, sixth on vault and seventh on floor. Chloe Gautier was fourth in vault.

Friday, Feb. 9

Boys' basketball

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 50, COLUMBUS NORTH 40: Both teams got out to a high scoring start, but the Panthers' defense shut down the Bull Dogs the rest of the way to secure a share of the Conference Indiana title with Terre Haute North. Both ended up 4-1 in league play. South (11-8, 4-1) led 22-17 after one quarter and 29-28 at halftime, but found some space at the end of the third by scoring six points in the final 10 seconds to go up, 43-37. CN (6-11, 0-2) scored just 12 points in the second half.

TERRE HAUTE NORTH 56, BLOOMINGTON NORTH 35: Both teams got off to a slow start, but the Patriots (18-3, 4-1) got in gear in the second, going on an 18-6 run in the second. They followed up by burying the listless Cougars (8-11, 2-2) with a 21-point third to go up 46-21. BN hit just two 3-pointers all night. Connor O'Guinn had 12 points and Luke Lindeman eight for the Cougars, who have dropped three of their last four. Jalen Williams went down with an injury late in the first quarter and didn't return until the start of the second half, finishing with two points. Cameron Fennell had 17 points, 11 in the third when he hit three 3s. Photo gallery.

VINCENNES LINCOLN 71, EASTERN GREENE 42: The Alices (10-11) opened up a 45-21 lead by halftime and cruised to the finish over the T-Birds (4-14).

MONROVIA 60, OWEN VALLEY 51: Patriots (6-13) fall at home and have lost six of their last seven while the Bulldogs (9-10) have won six of seven.

Wednesday, Feb. 7

Gymnastics

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 107.1, EDGEWOOD 96.6, OWEN VALLEY 89.6, MARTINSVILLE 83.6: Cougars set a season high as all four schools celebrate Senior Night. North's Sofie Garcia won the all-around title with a 36.5 while Martinsville's Gabby Grubb was second at 35.85. That duo swept the individual titles as Garcia won bars (9.1) and floor (9.15) and Grubb vault (9.45) and beam (9.0). North's Jessica Floyd (34.5), Claire Dann (33.75) and Dede Eberle (33.7) went 3-4-5. OV's Dakota Worthington had a 31.7. Garcia was second on vault, Eberle on bars and Dann was runner-up on beam and floor. Edgewood saw Addison Goerges take sixth on floor (8.8) and Harlie Robbins sixth on vault (8.75). Worthington tied for fourth on floor (8.85)

Tuesday, Feb. 6

Boys' basketball

OWEN VALLEY 60, EASTERN GREENE 53 (OT): Patriots (6-12) stop five-game losing streak with home win. T-Birds (4-13) has won two straight.
