Garret Sparks gets surprise meeting with Trevor Kidd, inspiration for goalie pads (Video)

If you noticed one thing about Garret Sparks during his debut on Monday it was probably his unique pad design. The look is in honor of former NHL netminder and ex-Toronto Maple Leaf Trevor Kidd, which was done by Brian's Custom Sports.

During his media scrum on Wednesday in Winnipeg, Sparks talked about how the idea for the pad design came about. He was then asked if he’d like to meet Kidd one day and after he responded yes it was pointed out that Kidd was standing in the back of the scrum.

“I think it’s so cool. My phone was blowing up the other day talking about the kid in Toronto wearing your swag and wearing your gear,” Kidd said.

“I hope you don’t mind,” Sparks adorably responded.

As Sparks later Tweeted on Wednesday, Kidd wasn’t the only NHL goaltender to have an influence on him:

A shutout in his debut and meeting his goalie hero. What a week for Garret Sparks.

Stick-tap to Robert Soderlind for the video
