On Tuesday, a hacker or hackers went into the Instagram account of reality star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi. The former Jersey Shore cast member used her Twitter account to alert her 4.6 million Instagram followers to what was going on about 3 p.m. ET, although they could easily see something was up. Instead of seeing the usual shots of Snooki's kids, her workouts, and her life with husband Jionni LaValle, Snooki's followers were treated to images featuring Arabic writing and someone wearing a head scarf. They also undoubtedly noticed that most of Snooki's 2,700 posts were deleted.

The Snooki & JWoww star shared a video via Facebook while her account was hijacked, assuring her fans that any new accounts with her name on them were fake.

At one point, the person or persons responsible posted a message demanding that Snooki direct message them: "We are Arabic hackers, but that doesn't mean all of the Arabic people are bad, please respect me respect my people or you're going to be next.!"

Snooki makes two to five posts per day on the photo-sharing site, which means she uses it about as much as Kim Kardashian. Although she repeatedly said she was creeped out by the hacking, she didn't go on any real rants. Her loyal fans seemed just as annoyed as the pint-sized star herself.

The disruption in Snooki's account appeared to end about six hours after it began. She shared a video that said simply, "I'm back everybody! That was freakin' weird. Let's move on." Her images were also restored.

Hacking scandals have been a huge story in 2014. In August, nude photos of female celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton circulated after they were taken without permission. Earlier this month, several Sony Pictures executives and a few celebrities were embarrassed after private emails from the company were released to the public in an attempt to thwart the release of The Interview.
