As Blair Henley makes his debut with Astros, Texas is represented on another MLB roster
Former Texas pitcher Blair Henley made his major league debut for the Houston Astros on Monday night.
Henley was promoted from Houston's Triple-A franchise after the Astros scratched Framber Valdez from an expected start at the Texas Rangers. A Fort Worth native, Henley struggled in his debut. He recorded just one out in the first inning and allowed four hits, three walks and five runs.
Houston eventually rallied to a 10-5 win.
Henley pitched at Texas from 2017-19. He was a seventh-round pick by the Astros in 2019 and became the fourth member of the Longhorns' 2018 College World Series team to appear in an MLB game:
∙ Kody Clemens, infielder: Made his MLB debut in 2022, has played 106 career games
∙ Bryce Elder, pitcher: Also made his MLB debut in 2022, has played 41 games
∙ David Hamilton, infielder: Made his MLB debut in 2023, has played 16 games
∙ Blair Henley, pitcher: Made his MLB debut Monday night, has played one game
Henley was reportedly optioned back to the minors after Monday's game, so that leaves Hamilton as the only member of the aforementioned quartet who's currently on an active MLB roster. Hamilton was called up by the Boston Red Sox last week as an injury replacement, and he hit his first career home run on Sunday.
Clemens has hit nine homers over his two seasons with Detroit and Philadelphia. Elder was named an All-Star last year while pitching for the Atlanta Braves.
