BJ Flores, Jake Paul’s trainer: ‘(Paul) is just a better athlete’ than Tommy Fury
Jake Paul’s trainer, BJ Flores, respects Tommy Fury. Flores simply believes that Paul is better than his British rival.
The entertainers-turned-professional boxers are finally set to meet at a 185-pound catch weight on pay-per-view Sunday night at Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, after Fury pulled out of the fight twice.
“Tommy’s got some really good attributes,” Flores told Sky Sports. “He’s got hand speed and he’s been around the boxing ring for a long time, but I feel like he’s in with just a better athlete.
“Jake punches harder, he’s smarter, has a higher boxing IQ and I feel like he does a lot of things that will give Tommy a lot of problems.”
Flores also believes Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) will feel more pressure than Paul (6-0, 4 KOs), who has fought on big stages in the past.
Also, Fury’s half-brother, heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, has said publicly that Fury had better not lose or he’ll have to change his surname. That kind of comment, although tongue in cheek, only adds to the pressure on Fury to succeed.
“Tyson is a very smart boxing guy, he knows boxing very well and for him to say that, I feel like it’s put a lot of pressure on Tommy,” the former cruiserweight contender said.
“He’s never fought in front of the type of crowds that Jake has multiple times. He’s never headlined in front of 20,000 people. He’s never been the main event on a pay-per-view card or had a main spotlight fight.
“… I don’t care what Tommy says, ‘no pressure.’ Whatever. He’s going to feel it on fight week.”
Thus, Flores’ prediction is no surprise. He said his fighter will be “demolishing” Fury.
