Bishop Moore soccer teams lead Orlando area into FHSAA regional play

Bishop Moore’s boys and girls soccer teams are accustomed to challenging for Florida High School Athletic Association state championships.

Those programs will take the first step toward making return trips to the FHSAA finals when they host a Class 4A regional quarterfinal doubleheader on Tuesday. Class 3A and 2A quarterfinals are also in play Tuesday.

Bishop Moore boys open against Mount Dora at 5 p.m. State runners-up the past two seasons, they enter the tournament as four-time defending region champions.

The Hornets girls, who face Titusville Astronaut at 7 p.m., are chasing their fourth straight trip to the state semifinals as back-to-back defending 4A state titleholders.

Quarterfinal winners advance to region semifinals on Friday. Tickets for regional games are $9 at the GoFan website.

Class 7A, 6A and 5A tournaments begin next week.

Below is the small-schools schedule for boys and girls regions involving Orlando area teams. Win-loss records are included in parentheses.

Boys soccer

Class 4A Region 2

No. 8 Mount Dora (12-10-1) at No. 1 Bishop Moore (20-2-0)

No. 5 Brooksville Nature Coast Tech (11-4-4) at No. 4 The Villages (11-3-0)

Buzz: Bishop Moore has won 17 in a row, including a 4-0 victory at Mount Dora on Dec. 15. The Hornets are No. 2 in MaxPreps 4A rankings behind Miami Gulliver Prep (20-0-1). Mount Dora is led by sophomore Andy Perez (14 goals, 9 assists) and senior Harry Calderon (11 goals, 8 assists).

Class 3A Region 2

No. 8 Frostproof (9-9-2) at No. 1 Tampa Prep (14-1-2)

No. 5 Tampa Berkeley Prep (6-6-4) at No. 4 Windermere Prep (13-3-1)

No. 7 Clearwater Calvary Christian (7-4-5) at No. 2 Lake Highland Prep (9-6-1)

No. 6 Davenport Four Corners (12-3-1) at No. 3 Fort Myers Bishop Verot (10-5-1)

Buzz: Lake Highland’s strength-of-schedule is rated at 12.1 by MaxPreps, the toughest among all 3A teams. The Highlanders rank No. 7 in their class. Windermere is led by junior Angelo Arrivillaga (13 goals, 6 assists) and sophomore Nicolas Parra (11 goals, 8 assists).

Class 2A Region 2

No. 8 Stuart Pine (6-9-2) at No. 1 Lakeland Christian (15-3-2)

No. 5 Seffner Christian (12-7-0) at No. 4 Circle Christian (7-5-1)

No. 7 Vero Beach St. Edward’s (7-8-1) at No. 2 Orangewood Christian (12-3-1)

No. 6 Valrico Foundation Christian (9-3-0) at No. 3 Foundation Academy (10-5-0)

Buzz: Orangewood is No. 5 in MaxPreps 2A rankings. Foundation Academy junior Will Prunty opened the season by scoring 9 goals in eight games. Circle Christian went 2-0-1 vs. Seffner from 2018-20. Junior David Street has 11 goals and 11 assists for the Centurions.

Girls soccer

Class 4A Region 2

No. 8 Titusville Astronaut (5-6-3) at No. 1 Bishop Moore (10-6-2)

No. 4 Titusville (11-5-1) at No. 5 Brooksville Nature Coast Tech (11-6-0)

No. 7 Eustis (9-4-3) at No. 2 Satellite (16-4-1)

No. 6 The Villages (9-4-0) at No. 3 Mount Dora (15-2-2)

Buzz: Bishop Moore twin sisters Amelia Miller and Raelin Miller are committed to Abilene Christian University in Texas. The Hornets rank No. 3 in 4A, according to MaxPreps. Mount Dora defeated The Villages 3-2 on Jan. 20 for its fourth win in five meetings since 2018. Eustis junior Skye Dias has netted 40 goals.

Class 3A Region 2

No. 8 Riverview Bell Creek (12-8-1) at No. 1 Montverde Academy (13-4-1)

No. 5 Lake Highland Prep (8-5-2) at No. 4 Clearwater Calvary Christian (7-4-3)

No. 7 Cape Coral Oasis (10-3-3) at No. 2 Fort Myers Bishop Verot (16-1-1)

No. 6 Windermere Prep (7-6-2) at No. 3 Tampa Berkeley Prep (14-4-0)

Buzz: Defending state champion Montverde is No. 17 nationally and No. 2 in 3A rankings behind unbeaten Palm Beach Gardens Benjamin. Lake Highland has recorded 5 shutouts this season. Windermere sophomore Alyssa Parsons has scored 39 goals.

Class 3A Region 3

No. 8 Trinity Prep (7-8-0) at No. 1 Palm Beach Gardens Benjamin (16-0-0)

No. 4 West Palm Beach King’s Academy (10-4-2) at No. 5 Boca Raton St. Andrew’s (8-4-3)

Buzz: Trinity Prep is a district champion for the second consecutive season. Senior Sydney Salinas is among team leaders with 8 goals and 9 assists. The Saints lost 8-0 to Benjamin in the first round last year.

Class 2A Region 1

No. 7 Land O’ Lakes Academy at the Lakes (8-6-0) at No. 2 Jacksonville Christ’s Church (8-5-1)

No. 6 Tallahassee St. John Paul II (10-4-0) at No. 3 Mount Dora Christian (14-3-0)

Buzz: Mount Dora Christian has allowed just 11 goals against and recorded 10 shutouts. Sophomore Katherine Bayly has 9 goals and 5 assists and Riley Conlan has 7 goals and 5 assists.

Class 2A Region 2

No. 2 Lakeland Santa Fe Catholic (15-3-4) at No. 7 Orangewood Christian (8-4-0)

No. 6 Lakeland Victory Christian (12-4-4) at No. 3 Geneva School (13-2-0)

Buzz: Geneva is No. 9 in 2A MaxPreps rankings. Juniors Emma Keys (18 goals) and Ella Petersen (18 goals) and sophomore Chaley Covelli (14 goals) have combined for 20 assists. Orangewood is playing at home as a district champion.
