What Bill Belichick told the Patriots in the locker room after beating the Jets

Bill Belichick pumped up the New England Patriots in the locker room after beating the New York Jets in Week 7 at Gillette Stadium. After losing four of their first six games, the Patriots absolutely clobbered the Jets, 54-14, and Belichick seemed to be building buy-in from his players.

“Alright fellas. Here’s a really good chance for us to start believing in some of the stuff we’re doing,” Belichick said Sunday in the home team’s locker room. “Don’t turn the ball over. That’s a good place to start. Scored on nine of 10 possessions offensively. Jak(ob Johnson) is stiff arming. Alright, making plays in the passing game. Defensively, turning the ball over, getting vertical in the pocket, knocking the ball out with that great fumble at the end of the game. That was a great play. Cody — give tackles. Look, I’m just telling you: one day at a time, keep stringing them together. You can see the results.

“Just keep stacking them together. Come on, this is going to be a tough week (against the Chargers), now and they’re playing pretty good. You did a good job bouncing back.”

It sounds like Belichick wanted to instill tremendous confidence in his team, which seemed to feel their record didn’t reflect their talent.
