HAMILTON - Ben Boehm joined the track team this season to stay in shape for football.

He is big and strong - and fast.

But nobody, even Boehm, knew just how fast.

In his first year running, he tied the school record in the 100 meters, running a sub-11 second race - something only a handful of runners in the area have ever achieved.

"It has been awesome," Boehm said. "I am knew to track. I haven't run since the seventh grade. This is great to come into this team. Everyone is motivated and everyone wants to go - and we are kicking butt."

Boehm ran a 10.8 to tie the school record in the 100 meters.

"That was great, especially for my first year. I am doing this for football, but that is amazing," he said. "It really opened my eyes to track and I will definitely be back next year. All of the support from the coaches and the team has been great."

Boehm is also doing this while being a standout golfer this spring as well.

"Ben is a gifted athlete. He is one of the top golfers in the school and has been putting down times that are ranking him in the state (in track)," Hamilton coach Kevin Spotts said. "What I appreciate is that when he golfs, he is here for an extra practice every day. It has been a pleasure working with him."

Hamilton finished 7-0 in dual meets for the first time since 2009 and looks to win a conference title for the first time since 2016.

"It is really motivating to see everyone around the track excited. We are excited for the rest of the season with the conference meet, regionals, team state and individual state," Boehm said. "That energy helps a lot."

And there are plenty of athletes on the team who do other sports just like Boehm.

"We have people from all over the spectrum of high school sports," Boehm said. "We are all coming together and making something special."
