Big second period boosts Steers

Oct. 31—STINNETT, Texas — Farwell erupted for four touchdowns in the second quarter and the Steers went on to blank West Texas 56-0 on Friday night in a District 1-2A Division I game.

Junior Jonathan Armstrong and senior Corey Stancell each threw for two scores for Farwell (7-2, 3-1 district), which opened a 34-0 halftime advantage.

Senior Jackson Wilbourn and junior Ryder McElroy each caught at TD pass from both Armstrong and Stancell. In addition, Stancell had a pair of scoring runs and a pick-6 while Armstrong added, while Armstrong added a 16-yard TD run and junior Hayden Harris was credited with a safety.

Farwell posted a 394-145 advantage over the Comanches (4-5, 2-2)) in total offense. Armstrong and Stancell combined for 10-of-24 through the air for 271 yards.

The Steers close the regular campaign on Friday, hosting Panhandle (8-1, 3-1) in a battle for second place in the district behind second-ranked Stratford (9-0, 4-0).

Shallowater 27, Muleshoe 19 — At Muleshoe, senior Kouper Boyd led a potent running attack with 25 carries for 183 yards and three touchdowns, and the Mustangs outlasted the Mules in a District 2-3A Division I matchup.

Junior quarterback Clayton Vincent went 0-for-4 through the air for Shallowater (4-5, 1-2), but he scored the Mustangs' other touchdown and finished with nine carries for 73 yards.

The Mules (7-2, 1-2) piled up 413 total yards, with junior quarterback Nathan Martens throwing for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Ramzee Martinez had three catches for 100 yards and two scores while junior Yahir Quezada posted nine receptions for 59 yards.

Muleshoe finishes its district and regular-season slates on Friday at Dalhart.
