Bev Ball Classic brings top-tier high school volleyball to Abilene area
The annual Bev Ball Classic volleyball tournament begins Friday with 27 teams playing at three different sites — Abilene High, Cooper and Wylie.
Abilene’s three Class 5A programs — AHS, Cooper and Wylie — are part of the field, along with Big Country schools Brownwood, Clyde, Eastland, Hawley, Jim Ned and Sweetwater.

The tournament begins with pool play Friday, and the top teams advance to the championship bracket on Saturday, which will be played at Cooper’s Cougar Gym. The remaining teams play in the Silver Bracket on Saturday at Abilene High’s Eagle Gym.
Holliday beat Wylie 26-24, 18-25, 25-13 for the tournament title last year. Holliday also reached the tournament championship the year before, falling to Bushland in all Class 3A finale.
