High school football: Your guide to the 2023 season

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week voting occurs each week during high school sports competition and recognizes athletes across all sports.

If you can't see the ballot when you scroll to the bottom of this story, try refreshing the link or clearing the cache in your browser. Voters can cast one vote per hour per device. You do not have to be a subscriber to vote.

Please do not email your votes; they will not count. Nominations and votes are not the same things.

Athletes are on this week's ballot based on information made available to The Dispatch, and nominations made over the past week.

High school sports: 2022-23 Athletes of the week

Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. If athletes haven't won in the regular season, they can be nominated more than once.

The Dispatch staff reserves the right to remove ballots or athletes from the ballot where voting irregularities have occurred.

Here are this week's Athlete of the Week candidates:

Cayden Carroll, Grove City Christian football: Rushed for 275 yards and three touchdowns on 39 carries and had 10 tackles in a 37-27 win over Corning Miller.

Aza Corbett, Centennial cross country: Runs cross country and track and plays soccer, basketball and softball while also attending Otterbein for dual credit.

Natalie Fouts, Dublin Jerome girls cross country: Took second place in the Celtic Clash with a time of 17:40. Her time was a school record and a personal record by more than 40 seconds.

Brian Luft, Newark Catholic golf: Earned Licking County League Player of the Year by shooting a 3-over-par 74 in the final LCL tournament. That gave him tournament medalist honors with NC’s Max Vanoy.

Braddock Lusher, Grandview Heights football: Rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, had a 37-yard reception and had eight tackles (including 2 for loss) and a sack in a 41-30 win over Whetstone.

Kaynen Lindsey, Johnstown football: Rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in a 26-14 win over Northridge.

A.J. McAninich, Watterson football: Completed 23 of 30 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-7 win over Hartley.

Kaylee Musick, Hartley volleyball: Had 41 kills, 29 assists, 24 digs and seven blocks in wins over Sheridan and Watterson.

Ryan Perry, Hartley football: Had five catches for 114 yards in a 35-7 loss to Watterson.

Maxwell Spencer, Teays Valley football and soccer: During a 45-7 football win over Circleville on Friday, was 6 for 6 on extra points and kicked a 41-yard field goal. He is 19 for 19 on PATs and 4 of 5 on field goals. In a soccer win over Newark on Saturday, he had three goals (all in the first half) and two assists. On Wednesday in a 2-1 win over Bloom-Carroll, he scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the other. He has 14 goals and 10 assists this season.

Jake Uhlenhake, Watterson football: Had five receptions for 117 yards and the three scores in a 35-7 win over Hartley.
