High school Athlete of the Week

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week voting occurs each week during high school sports competition and recognizes athletes across all sports.

High school sports: 2022-23 Athletes of the week

Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. If athletes haven't won in the regular season, they can be nominated more than once.

Here are this week's Athlete of the Week candidates:

JT Hiltscher, Marysville track and field: won the 100 (11.06), 200 (22.85) and 400 (51.58) in the OCC-Cardinal meet.

Lillian Hurd, Independence track and field: Won the 100 (12.58), 200 (25.88) and 400 (58.56) and was a member of the first-place 800 relay (1:46.39) at the City League meet.

Olivia Pace, Westerville Central track and field: Won the 100 (11.94), 200 (24.45) and long jump (19-3 1/2) in the OCC-Ohio meet. The long jump is a program and OCC all division meet record.

Miriam Rule, Whetstone track and field: Won the 1,600 (5:17.15) and 3,200 (11:47.21) and was a member of the first-place 3,200 relay (10:19.87) in the City League meet.

CJ Sanna, Olentangy track and field: Won the shot put (53-4.75) and discus (178-7) at the OCC Cardinal meet. The discus mark broke the Cardinal record of 174-10 from 2012. The previous week at the Delaware County Championships, he won both the shot put (58- 9) and discus (192-4) with recording-breaking throws. Both marks are the top throws in central Ohio so far this spring and the discus mark is the 15th longest throw in the nation. 

Thaiven Thy, Briggs volleyball: Had 16 digs with no passing errors, two assists and two serving aces against Newark; had 20 digs with no passing errors and one assist vs. Edgewood; had 20 digs with an assist and no errors vs. Chillicothe; and had 31 digs, one assist, no errors and four aces vs. Middletown.
