High school football: Your guide to the 2023 season

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week voting occurs each week during high school sports competition and recognizes athletes across all sports.

If you can't see the ballot when you scroll to the bottom of this story, try refreshing the link or clearing the cache in your browser. Voters can cast one vote per hour per device. You do not have to be a subscriber to vote.

Athletes are on this week's ballot based on information made available to The Dispatch, and nominations made over the past week.

High school sports: 2022-23 Athletes of the week

Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. If athletes haven't won in the regular season, they can be nominated more than once.

The Dispatch staff reserves the right to remove ballots or athletes from the ballot where voting irregularities have occurred.

Here are this week's Athlete of the Week candidates:

Gerald Banks, Watkins Memorial football: Rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries in a 41-0 win over Johnstown.

Kara Bergeron, Granville cross country: Won the Newark Invitational with an 18:38 time, shaving 26 seconds off her previous personal record. The time is ninth best all-time for Granville. She is in fifth place in the Division 2 rankings.

Gavin Chinn, Utica football: Caught three touchdown passes in a 35-6 win over Indian Creek.

Brock Fisher, Olentangy Orange football: Had 15 tackles, including four solo, in a 42-13 win over Newark. He averages more than 10 tackles a game, including four solo.

Avery Garlock, DeSales football: Rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in a 43-42 loss to Ready.

Brayden Ison, Grove City Christian soccer: Scored the tying goal in a 3-3 final against Rosecrans and scored from 50 yards out in a 2-0 win over International. He has four assists and three goals for the season.

Gracie James, Watkins Memorial golf: Shot an 8-unde- par 64 at Links at Echo Springs, bettering her school record, to win the third Licking County League competition of the season. She recorded six birdies and an eagle.

Aiden Llewellyn, Thomas Worthington football: Had 11 receptions for 143 yards and a touchdown and 1.5 sacks in a 38-12 win over Westland.

Trenton Markus, Licking Valley football: Rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries in a 37-14 win over Lakewood.

Matthew Papas, Grove City football: Completed 26 of 28 passes for 398 yards and six touchdowns in 49-0 win over Marysville.

Kentrell Rinehart, Ready football: Ran for three touchdowns and a winning two-point conversion and passed for a TD in a 43-42 win over DeSales.

Alec Rothe, Dublin Scioto volleyball: Had 46 kills, 29 digs, seven blocks two aces and a .349 hitting efficiency in wins over Delaware Hayes, Big Walnut and Pickerington Central. She had double-doubles (kills, digs) against Delaware and Central and was one dig short of another double-double against Big Walnut. As a middle blocker, she has a serve receive of 2.22 and seven assists.

Spike Woods, Teays Valley football: Rushed for 279 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in a 31-19 win over Liberty Union and 217 yards and a touchdown and had an interception return for a TD in a 51-17 loss to Hamilton Township. For the season, he has 537 yards rushing, 25 tackles, two sacks and an interception.
