'#BerhalterOut': Fans react to Gregg Berhalter's re-hiring for U.S. men's national team

Columbus Crew midfielder Aidan Morris and the rest of the United States men's national team found out Thursday who their head coach would be.

After 5 1/2 months of deliberation after his contract expired, the U.S. Soccer Federation will announce Friday that Gregg Berhalter will return to coach the U.S. men's national team through the 2026 World Cup.

In the midst of conflict with former U.S. captain Claudio Reyna and midfielder Danielle Egan over their son Gio Reyna's use on the national team during the World Cup, which led to an investigation about a prior domestic violence investigation involving Berhalter, former U.S. men's national team star Clint Dempsey admitted he was confused about the hire.

"I'm confused because you either did something bad enough that it lost you the job or caused these interim coaches to be in play, or you didn't," Dempsey said on the broadcast of the United States' 3-0 win vs. Mexico Thursday. "And if you go back with Berhalter, then we wasted a lot of time. Why have we wasted this much time to just go back with who we had in the beginning?"

Berhalter was the head coach of the Crew for 193 games from 2014-2018, leading the team to a record of 74-70-49, qualifying for the playoffs in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018. Berhalter's Crew lost the 2015 MLS Cup to the Portland Timbers.
