Ben Chilwell is close to signing a new contract with Leicester City after his recent promotion to the senior England squad.

The highly-rated defender is in advanced talks over a long-term deal and Leicester are confident of putting the finishing touches to negotiations over the next 48 hours.

Chilwell has been a key performer this season under Claude Puel and was called up to the England squad for the friendly against Switzerland at Leicester's King Power Stadium in September.

He has also impressed in both of England's games in the Uefa Nations League in Croatia and Spain this month and Leicester are moving to offer the 21-year-old improved terms.

Chilwell signed a five-year contract in July 2016, a few weeks after Leicester lifted the Premier League title.

Confirmation of Chilwell's new deal could be announced before Leicester's trip to Arsenal on Monday night.

Puel said: "Ben finished well last season and started very well this season in the Premier League. He is impressive because for a young player he finds a good consistency in his play with a good performance all the time.

"He can defend and attack well, and he can repeat the effort. He is a complete player and a valuable player for us. Now he can become a valuable player for the national team. He can compete with the other players with more experience, but for a player of 21 it is impressive to see his consistency."

Chilwell will join a number of Leicester stars to have recently committed their futures to the Midlands club, following England team-mate Harry Maguire, Jamie Vardy, Kasper Schmeichel and Wilfred Ndidi.
