Bel Air's Cydney Davis, Americas' Erica Cobos claim state wrestling titles

Bel Air's Cydney Davis and Americas' Erica Cobos won UIL state wrestling championships Saturday to complete dominating seasons on a day when 16 El Pasoans placed at the state meet in Cypress.

The sophomore Davis, a national caliber track athlete in the heptathlon, won the Class 5A girls 142-pound division to cap a 48-0 season, beating Amarillo High's Arayla Archie on a fall at the 5:38 mark. Bel Air finished seventh as a team with 53 points.

Cobos won the Class 6A girls 235-pound division to finish her year 35-1, beating Arlington Houston's Christina Faulk via fall at the 0:31 mark.

Two El Pasoans picked up silver medals in the 6A boys competition, as Eastwood's Cayden Rios and Franklin's Ian Abdallah both made it to the championship match and placed second.

El Paso picked up three more bronze medals, as Andress' Jo'Vone Hernandez was third in the 5A 138 boys, Eastwood's Elijah Molinar was third in the 6A 150 boys and Franklin's Jubilee Rendon took third in the 6A girls 100 division.
