Bayern won the Champions League this summer by defeating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0, while Sevilla claimed a record sixth Europa League crown as they beat Inter Milan 3-2.
Tonight’s fixture therefore has a degree of hype around it, but there is also concern surrounding the event, which is set to welcome approximately 20,000 spectators into the Puskas Arena – almost a third of the stadium’s overall capacity.
The President of Bavaria, Markus Soder, earlier this week urged Bayern fans not to travel to the Hungarian capital for the tie, saying: “My stomach hurts thinking about the Super Cup. Budapest is a [coronavirus] risk area. We have to be very careful. My appeal would be to think about it again and see if this is really necessary," Soder said. The Super Cup is an exciting game, but it is not the most decisive game of all.”
Whether or not fans of FC Hollywood heed Soder’s calls remains to be seen. Here is everything you need to know about tonight’s game:
What time is it?
The Uefa Super Cup final kicks off at 8pm BST tonight in Budapest.
How can I watch it?
BT Sport subscribers can watch the game on BT Sport 1, with coverage beginning at around 7.15pm BST. Subscribers can also stream the match live on BT Sport’s app and website.
What is the team news?
Left-back Alphonso Davies missed out on Bayern’s victory over Schalke at the weekend as a precaution, but he is expected to start this evening.
Sevilla brought in Ivan Rakitic from Barcelona over the summer and he is in set for a second debut at the club, six years after leaving.
Bayern: Neuer; Pavard, Sule, Boateng, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka; Gnabry, Muller, Coman; Lewandowski
Sevilla: Bono; Navas, Kounde, Carlos, Escudero; Rakitic, Gudelj, Fernando; Suso, De Jong, Ocampos
Bayern were in frightening form en route to lifting the Champions League trophy last month, and their Bundesliga return last weekend saw them demolish Schalke 8-0. As savvy and technically adept as Sevilla are, Bayern are on another level. Bayern 3-0 Sevilla.
