Bauer's clutch layup secures victory for No. 6 Lourdes girls basketball over No. 7 Oakfield

OAKFIELD — The No. 6-ranked Lourdes Academy Knights (8-2, 6-0 Trailways-East) narrowly defeated the No. 7-ranked Oakfield Oaks (11-2, 6-1), 57-56, in the final moments of a thrilling Trailways conference contest between two top-10 Division 5 teams.

After Oakfield took a 1-point lead with nine seconds remaining, Lourdes junior Hailee Bauer - who scored her 1000th career point in last Thursday's victory over Berlin - dribbled the length of the court to score the game-winning layup with four seconds left.

Bauer finished with 20 points, six assists and five steals to lead the Knights.

Fellow junior Delaney Ruedinger put together a well-rounded line of 16 points, six rebounds, six assists, four steals and a pair of blocks and senior Ella Slusarski added 13 points, five boards, three assists and two steals for Lourdes.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Berlin 74, Kettle Moraine Lutheran 59

BERLIN — In an East Central matchup, Berlin (10-1, 3-1) came out on top over the Chargers (6-6, 1-3).

Alex Johnson led Berlin with 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc, which tied the school record for three-point makes in a game.

Hayden Redington added a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and Brock Wilde had 12 points.

KML had four scorers reach double digits, led by Garrett Murphy with 17 points.

Plymouth 86, Ripon 32

RIPON — The Tigers (4-7, 1-4 East Central) were outmatched by the Panthers (7-2, 3-1), who led by 30 at halftime in the meeting between conference foes.

Kayden Schultz paved the way to victory for Plymouth with 28 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Valley Christian 57, Horicon 45

OSHKOSH — The Warriors (8-3, 5-2) defeated the Marshmen (5-7, 3-5) in a Trailways-East battle.

Anna Y. Giannopoulos had a double-double to lead Valley Christian with 18 points and 11 rebounds, along with three steals.

Lizzie Fink added 14 points and five steals and Mya Moran finished with 12 points for the Warriors.

OMRO — The Foxes (7-5, 4-2) blew out the Cardinals (1-10, 1-5) in a Flyway conference contest.

BOYS HOCKEY

Oshkosh 9, Shawano/Bonduel 2

OSHKOSH — Despite conceding the first goal of the game, the Ice Hawks (7-7, 1-2 Badgerland) responded with three goals in the opening period and added five more in the second to take down the Shawano/Bonduel Hawks (3-8, 1-1 Independent).

Isaiah Koeppen scored a pair of shorthanded goals to lead Oshkosh.

Evan Neitzel, Dayton Briski, Owen Moran, Leo Ulrich, Brennon Kraft, Reid Polak, and Mason Monhen (power play) all added goals for the Ice Hawks.

Alex Beck assisted on both of the first two goals for Oshkosh while Polak and Moran each also collected an assist.

Max Huntington (unassisted) and Cam Schroeder (assisted by Karson Stoss) opened the first and second periods with goals, respectively, for Shawano/Bonduel.

Gage Bauer saved 13 of 15 shots and Chase Magadanz had seven saves for the Ice Hawks.

Tyson Lyons saved 11 of 17 shots and Kaiden Thornborrow saved seven of 10 for the Hawks.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Warbirds 5, Arrowhead 2 (Wednesday)

FOND DU LAC - The Warbirds (9-4-1, 2-2-1) wasted no time, scoring four goals in the first period to earn the win over Arrowhead (6-7, 1-3).

With 19 points, the Warbirds sit alone atop the Eastern Shores standings.

Abby Waara got things started 45 seconds into the game with the first goal for the Warbirds, followed by goals from Allison Waara, Ella Getz and Josie Kooima (assisted by Al. Waara) to give them a 4-0 lead before the Warhawks would respond.

Kooima returned the favor, assisting on Allison Waara's second goal a minute into the second period.

Sara Kopf ended the Warbirds run with a power play goal for Arrowhead before the end of the first and Bella Hamel scored shorthanded in the second period to close out the scoring.

Lauren Grass had 14 saves for the Warbirds while Bri Chmiel saved 26 shots for the Warhawks.
