Battle 4 Atlantis, UNC basketball score updates: Tar Heels beat Arkansas, Villanova wins

UNC basketball finished third in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, leaving the Bahamas with a 2-1 record.

The 14th-ranked Tar Heels (5-1) dropped their first game of the season in an 83-81 overtime loss to Villanova (5-1) before earning a win against No. 20 Arkansas on the final day of the three-day event. UNC started the tournament with a rout of Northern Iowa.

Villanova dominated Memphis 79-63 on Friday inside Imperial Arena at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort to win the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Wildcats have never lost in the Bahamas.

Villanova had five players in double figures and dominated Memphis from start to finish in a 79-63 win to claim the Battle 4 Atlantis crown. The Wildcats, who led by as many as 35 points against the Tigers, beat Texas Tech and UNC to reach the Battle 4 Atlantis championship.

RJ Davis scored a game-high 30 points to help UNC basketball earn an 87-72 win against No. 20 Arkansas in the third-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis.

In the final seconds of the Tar Heels' loss to Villanova, UNC guard Cormac Ryan appeared to roll his ankle. Ryan previously injured his right ankle in UNC's exhibition game against Saint Augustine's.

In a game that featured 19 ties and 23 lead changes, UNC had several players foul out and Villanova took advantage to win in the bonus period. The Wildcats made 32 free throws and got 34 points from Eric Dixon as three Tar Heels fouled out.

After a sluggish first half, UNC basketball experienced smooth sailing in the second half of its 91-69 win against Northern Iowa in the opening game of the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Tar Heels will play Villanova in Thursday's semifinals.
