Basketball Roundup: Battle Creek Academy's Sofia Keller scores 1,000th career point

TEKONSHA - Getting to 1,000 points usually comes near the end of a standout high school career. Sofia Keller of Battle Creek Academy hit that milestone on opening night of the girls basketball season, and it seems like she is just getting started.

In just her first game of her sophomore season, Keller passed the 1,000-point total for her career in Battle Creek Academy's 49-35 win over Tekonsha at Tekonsha High School on Tuesday.

Keller needed only 18 points to to reach 1,000 for her career and she blew past that by scoring a game-high 36 in the non-conference victory.

"I am incredibly proud and happy for Sofia on reaching 1,000 varsity points," Battle Creek Academy coach Shadrach Grentz said. "Ever since I started teaching Sofia in the fourth grade, I knew that she had a love for the game of basketball. It is amazing to see how her game has developed.

"Tonight was an overall good feeling to get a win to start the year and see Sofia accomplish this milestone that has never happened in the 32-year history of our athletic program."

Playing high school basketball in both seventh and eighth grades, Keller already has 550 career points at the varsity level before she even entered high school. She added nearly 500 points more her freshman season last year and is already the school's all-time leading scorer.
