Basketball Recap: Quincy, Coldwater, Tekonsha and Union City all fall

CLIMAX – The Quincy Oriole boys varsity basketball team traveled outside of the Big 8 Tuesday night for a nonconference tilt versus Climax Scotts. The Orioles played Climax Scotts evenly in each quarter save for the second, which saw the Panthers outscore Quincy 20-3, which ended up as the difference as Quincy dropped the game by the score of 54-43.

Quincy led 12-6 after the first quarter, but the 20-3 second quarter pushed the Panthers into the lead at 26-15 at the half. Quincy took the third quarter 12-10, only to see Climax take the fourth 18-16, to find the final score of 54-43.

Brandon Miner led the way for Quincy with a solid double-double, notching 13 points while pulling down 10 rebounds.

Also adding to the Quincy effort was Grant Carter with eight points and three rebounds; Ryan Kempter with eight points, three rebounds, and four assists; Corey Turner with five points; and Alex Dunn with eight rebounds.

Quincy falls to 8-9 overall on the season with the loss and will next see action Friday when they culminate Oriole Week with a home game versus Maple Valley.

Coldwater falls to Northwest

JACKSON – The Coldwater Cardinals could not keep the momentum from last Friday’s dramatic overtime win over rival Marshall on Tuesday, as they traveled to Jackson Northwest for Interstate 8 action, falling by the score of 63-45.

Coldwater falls to 5-13 overall on the season and 4-5 in the Interstate 8.

In J.V. action it was Coldwater beating Northwest 81-67, improving to 13-4 on the season.

Coldwater was led by Dayton Ennis with 17 points while Landon Dirschell added 16 points. The trio of Dracyn Foster, Jakyi Brown Abston, and Sebastian Ocampo all scored 14 points each while Foster also recorded eight rebounds, six steals, and seven assists.

The Coldwater freshman boys fell to Northwest by the score of 42-21.

Tekonsha drops SCAA battle versus Colon

TEKONSHA – The Colon Magi saw four players reach double figures in scoring as it was Colon defeating Tekonsha by the score of 64-31.

It was all Colon from the start, as the Magi outscored Tekonsha 27-7 in the first quarter and 17-10 in the second quarter to build a 44-17 lead at the half. The Magi continued to pull away, outscoring Tekonsha 17-7 to extend that lead to 61-25 after three full quarters. Tekonsha took the fourth quarter by the slimmest of margins, outscoring the Magi 7-3 to find the final score of 64-31.

Tekonsha was led on the night by Preston Pombier with eight points while the duo of Wyatt Metcalf and Dylan Griffith both added six points.

Colon was led by Maverick Downs with 18 points, Dalton Williams with 17 points, and the duo of Dominic Mock and Kyle Milton with 10 points each.

Union City drops nailbiter at Kalamazoo Christian

KALAMAZOO – The Union City Chargers fell to Kalamazoo Christian Tuesday night in a nailbiter, falling by the score of 40-39. Union City falls to 9-8 overall on the season and will return to the court Friday when they travel to Reading.
