Baseball Player of the Week: Manville’s Justin Petti wins award

Manville High School’s baseball program has come a long way in a short amount of years. Players like senior Justin Petti are part of the reason.

Petti went 5-for-8 with four stolen bases and four RBIs last week as the Mustangs won three straight games to move over .500. The streak is now five and their record 8-5 after Thursday’s 8-4 non-conference win over Highland Park.

For his efforts, Petti was voted the MyCentralJersey.com Readers’ Choice Baseball Player of the Week.

Versatility is precious to a school of Group 1 Manville’s diminutive size and Petti fits that role.

Coach Rob Snyder plays Petti in centerfield, second base, third base and even on the mound.

He had two RBIs in 4-1 and 6-1 wins last week over Bound Brook and Piscataway Tech.

Snyder said Petti was stuck behind graduated seniors last season but has made the most of his opportunities this year.

He’s our super utility guy,” said Snyder.
