Baker Mayfield wins NFL on Fox Comeback Player of the Year award

The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year award won’t be revealed until Thursday, but quarterback Baker Mayfield took home that same award from a different source on Wednesday.

NFL on FOX had their own voting for the NFL’s yearly awards, and Mayfield won their Comeback Player of the Year award. That award is fan-voted on, but the AP award is voted on by sports journalists around the nation.

Mayfield’s efforts for the Bucs off of a rough season with both the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams in 2022 is remarkable. Not only did he throw 28 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions, but he threw six touchdowns to three picks in Tampa Bay’s playoff run. Mayfield seemed to have clicked with the Bucs in 2023, but whether or not he returns to the team will depend on how much money Tampa Bay is willing to give him in free agency.

Mayfield will face off against Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford and Cleveland Browns QB Joe Flacco for the AP award.
