Badgers pound Breakers, 87-53, in rematch

New starting lineup, same result for Wisconsin on its overseas tour.

After they defeated the New Zealand Breakers 85-75 Tuesday, the Badgers upped the ante in a rematch with an 87-53 exhibition win in Tauranga.

Head coach Greg Gard used a new starting lineup for Game 2. After he knocked down seven 3-pointers Tuesday, shooting guard Brevin Pritzl remained in the top five but was was joined by newcomers Brad Davison, Aleem Ford, Andy Van Vliet and Charlie Thomas.

UW, which jumped out to an 11-0 lead, was ahead by 19 at halftime and went 15 for 27 from beyond the arc. Van Vliet, a 7-foot junior forward, paced Wisconsin in scoring with 14. Off the bench, D'Mitrik Trice chipped in 12, with nine apiece from true freshmen Kobe King and Nathan Reuvers.

Defensively, the Badgers limited the Breakers to 29.7 percent shooting from the field and 14.3 percent from 3-point range.

Wisconsin now heads to Australia for the final three games of its tour.
