WALES – Badger head football coach Matt Hensler was given medical attention on the sideline and then taken by ambulance to the hospital Friday night during his team’s WIAA playoff game Friday night.

Assistant coach Mike Koronkiewicz, who addressed the players after a 28-7 victory over Kettle Moraine, said Hensler experienced shortness of breath and was examined by trainers before being taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“Everything is OK right now,” Koronkiewicz, the co-defensive coordinator, told reporters moments after speaking with the team. “I think it’s just making sure everything stays that way.”

Senior quarterback JP Doyle scored a pair of 1-yard rushing touchdowns, passed for another TD and intercepted a pass on host Kettle Moraine’s final offensive play as the Badgers (12-0) ended the 2022 Division 2 champion Lasers’ 16-game winning streak.

“We all love him,” Doyle said of Hensler. “He sets us up for success so much, so we couldn’t be more happy that he’s our coach. … We’re going to pray for him.”
