D-R's Braga reaches 1000 career digs: Top high school sports performers for Oct. 9-14

TAUNTON— The second week of October is upon us in the Greater Taunton area.

With the fall regular season now past the halfway point and the latest batch of MIAA power rankings out, local teams are moving full speed ahead as they hope to qualify for their respective tournaments.

Here's a look at the Greater Taunton area's top performing high school athletes for the week of Oct. 9-14.

Saturday

Girls Soccer

Taylor Lincoln scored the lone goal of the match for Bridgewater-Raynham (10-2-1, 4-1-0 SEC) assisted by Lily Giurleo as the Trojans beat Braintree 1-0 on the road in non-league action. Goalkeeper Abby Hart made eight saves to keep the clean sheet for B-R.

Boys Cross Country

Drew Alves was the top finisher for Taunton (0-4, 0-4 Hockomock) in the Large School 5K, coming in 129th out of 162 with a time of 18:32.6 at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational.

Girls Cross Country

Emersyn DePonte was the top finisher for Taunton (1-3, 1-3 Hockomock) in the Large School 5K, coming in 20th out of 136 with a time of 19:15.5 at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational.

Friday

Girls Soccer

Ava Alves and Adalyn Nadeau both found the back of the net for Taunton (3-7-3, 2-7-3 Hockomock) while Abby Constantino and Ava Uhl recorded assists as the Tigers beat North Attleboro 2-1 on the road in Hockomock action.

Boys Cross Country

Josh Geer was the top finisher for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-2, 2-2 SEC) in the Medium School 5K, coming in 51st out of 224 with a time of 17:30 at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational.

Nathan Gagne was the top finisher for Bristol-Plymouth (3-2, 3-2 MAC) in the Medium School 5K, coming in 177th out of 224 with a time of 19:29 at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational.

Mason Morgado was the top finisher for Dighton-Rehoboth (2-4, 2-4 SCC) in the Small School 5K, coming in 93rd out of 232 with a time of 18:17.1 at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational.

Girls Cross Country

Camden Strandberg won the Sophomore 5K with a time of 19:09.8 at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational. Sydney O'Donnell was the top finisher for Bridgewater-Raynham (4-0, 4-0 SEC) in the Medium School 5K, coming in 14th out of 161 with a time of 18:54.6.

Mari Lavigne was the top finisher for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-3, 3-3 SCC) in the Small School 5K, coming in 127th out of 168 with a time of 23:41.5 at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational.

Golf

Richie Thayer led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (7-5, 5-1 SEC) shooting a 35 (-1) as the Trojans fell 233-258 to Xaverian in non-league action at Olde Scotland Links.

Charlie Rosa led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (7-11, 7-7 SCC) shooting a 42 (+6) as the Falcons fell 272-275 to Greater New Bedford in SCC action at Whaling City Golf Course. Other results for D-R include Jordan Dietz shooting a 44 (+8), James Czech and Ella Rosa both shooting a 46 (+10), Mason Ellinwood shooting a 48 (+12), Sam Courcy shooting a 49 (+13) and David Martel shooting a 51 (+15).

Volleyball

Holly Clary had 27 serves, 20 passes, 20 digs, 14 attacks and eight aces while Jillian Russell had 76 sets, 25 serves, 15 assists, 12 digs, five aces and three attacks to help lead Bridgewater-Raynham (7-8, 4-1 SEC) to a 3-2 win (17-25, 25-20, 25-14, 19-25 and 15-9) over Fontbonne Academy on the road in non-league action.

Thursday

Girls Soccer

Willow Forbes-Smith scored the lone goal for Bridgewater-Raynham (9-2-1, 4-1-0 SEC) assisted by Taylor Lincoln in a 4-1 non-league home loss to Sandwich.

Field Hockey

Penny Braga led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-4-3, 4-2-2 SCC) with two goals and an assist as they shut out Seekonk 4-0 at home in SCC action. Emma Horrocks and Kelsey Bain each had a goal and an assist.

Golf

Alex Dias led the way for Taunton (2-14, 1-14 Hockomock) shooting an even par of 36, a joint career-best, as the Tigers fell 169-165 to Sharon in Hockomock action at Segregansett Country Club. Colby Emond and Jameson Vallerelli both shot a 44 (+8) while Jace Galante shot a 45 (+9).

David Martel won the tiebreaker for Dighton-Rehoboth (7-10, 7-6 SCC) as the seventh scorer shooting a 51 (+15) after the match finished tied 261-261 with Case in SCC action at Hillside Country Club. Jordan Dietz led the way for D-R shooting a 39 (+3) while Charlie Rosa and James Czech both shot a 42 (+6), Sam Courcy shot a 44 (+8) and Ella Rosa and Mason Ellinwood both shot a 47 (+11).

Volleyball

Shelby Estrella had 11 aces, six digs, five assists and a kill as Bristol-Plymouth (6-9, 2-5 MAC) beat Blue Hills 3-2 on the road in MAC action. Christele Derogene had seven kills, Nevaeh Sullivan had six kills, a block and an ace and Ava Conrad had nine digs for the Craftsmen.

Wednesday

Girls Soccer

Adalyn Nadeau and Juliana Matos both found the back of the net for Taunton (2-7-3, 1-7-3 Hockomock) while Jalynn Andrews recorded an assist as the Tigers beat Foxboro 2-1 at home for their first Hockomock win of the season.

Cailee Leonard scored the lone goal for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-5-1, 4-4-1 SCC) assisted by goalkeeper Haleigh Kelley as the Falcons fell 3-1 to West Bridgewater at home in SCC action.

Boys Cross Country

Josh Geer, Brian Peters, Dan Leet, Joey Brand and Anthony Defeo finished first through fifth overall for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-2, 2-2 SEC) as the Trojans beat Durfee 15-50 on the road in SEC action.

Girls Cross Country

Camden Strandberg, Sydney O’Donnell, Brenna Woodbury, Audrey Lambert and Molly Jesson were the top five finishers for Bridgewater-Raynham (4-0, 4-0 SEC) as the Trojans beat Durfee 18-45 on the road in SEC action. With the win, B-R secured the SEC regular season title.

Field Hockey

Jamie McLaren made 15 saves as Bridgewater-Raynham (2-8-2, 1-4-0 SEC) fell 2-0 to New Bedford at home in SEC action.

Golf

Alex Dias led the way for Taunton (2-13, 1-13 Hockomock) shooting a 39 (+3) while Noah Faidell shot a 47 (+11) and Colby Emond and Gage Melo each shot a 49 (+13) as the Tigers fell 184-154 to North Attleboro in Hockomock action at Heather Hill Country Club.

Richie Thayer led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (7-4, 5-1 SEC) shooting a 40 (+4) as the Trojans fell 113-204 to Bishop Stang in non-league action at the Country Club of New Bedford.

James Czech led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-10, 6-6 SCC) shooting a 38 (+2) while Charlie Rosa shot a 40 (+4) and Jordan Dietz and Ella Rosa each shot a 41 (+5) as the Falcons fell 160-157 to Attleboro in non-league action at Stone-E-Lea Golf Club.

Volleyball

Bridgewater-Raynham (6-8, 4-1 SEC) swept New Bedford 3-0 (25-16, 25-11 and 25-17) on the road in SEC thanks to a strong all-around effort.

Rachel Albernaz led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (5-9, 3-5 MAC) with 12 kills and three blocks while Lilliana Christiansen had nine kills, seven digs and an assist, Nevaeh Sullivan had six kills, four digs, four aces and an assist and Shelby Estrella had 14 digs, 13 assists and four aces as the Craftsmen beat Westport 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 24-26 and 25-21) at home in MAC action.

Corinne Braga had 22 digs, including the 1000th dig of her high school career, while Hannah Cronin had 10 kills and eight digs as Dighton-Rehoboth (3-12, 0-10 SCC) fell to West Bridgewater 3-2 (25-19, 17-25, 15-25, 25-16 and 11-15) at home in SCC action.

Tuesday

Boys Soccer

Liam Hannon scored the lone Dighton-Rehoboth (4-1-5, 3-1-4 South Coast Conference) goal while Brennan Silva made 11 saves as the Falcons drew Durfee 1-1 at home in non-league action.

Girls Soccer

Haylie Fortune led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (9-1-1, 4-1-0 SEC) with a pair of goals as the Trojans beat New Bedford 6-0 at home in SEC action. Lily Giurleo, Beyoncé Gray, Taylor Lincoln and Emily Lincoln all found the back of net while Willow Forbes-Smith recorded a pair of assists while Camryn Levie, Kennedy Smith, Ella Dupuy and Sydnee Fernandes each recorded one. Goalkeepers Cori Cahill, Abby Hart and Enna Mitchell split credit for the clean sheet.

Boys Cross Country

Drew Alves led the way for Taunton (0-4, 0-4 Hockomock) finishing ninth with a time of 19:41 as the Tigers fell 15-50 to Attleboro on the road in Hockomock action. Rounding out the top five for Taunton were Jordan Trucchi in 13th with a time of 20:11, Ben Andrade in 14th with a time of 20:43, Ben Oliveira in 15th with a time of 21:06 and Jeff Montenegro in 16th with a time of 21:10.

Girls Cross Country

Emersyn DePonte finished first overall with a time of 21:53 as Taunton (1-3, 1-3 Hockomock) defeated Attleboro 23-32 on the road in Hockomock action. Rounding out the top five for the Tigers was Sarah Mendonca in third with a time of 22:54, Winnie Yang in fourth with a time of 23:50, Arianna Abatangelo in seventh with a time of 25:18 and Madison Dias in eighth with a time of 25:24.

Field Hockey

Reese Jefferson led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (5-4-3, 4-2-2 SCC) with a goal and an assist while Penny Braga scored and Kelsey Bain recorded an assist as the Falcons beat Apponequet 2-0 at home in SCC action.

Golf

Alex Dias led the way for Taunton (2-12, 1-12 Hockomock) shooting a 43 (+7) while Trey Beubendorf and Gage Melo both shot a 46 (+10) and Jameson Vallerelli shot a 47 (+11) as the Tigers fell 182-150 to North Attleboro in Hockomock action at Segregansett Country Club.

Bridgewater-Raynham (7-3, 5-1 SEC) won the annual Sullivan Golf Tournament at Thorny Lea Golf Club. Richie Thayer finished second overall shooting a 78 (+8) across 18 holes while Matt Lydon finished third shooting an 80 (+10) and Jack Balutis shot a 90 (+20).

James Czech led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-9, 6-6 SCC) shooting a 43 (+8) while Jordan Dietz shot a 45 (+10) and Charlie Rosa and Ella Rosa both shot a 46 (+11) as the Falcons fells 287-284 to Bourne in SCC action at The Brookside Club.

Volleyball

Nevaeh Sullivan led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (4-9, 2-5 MAC) with 10 kills, two aces, two digs and an assist while Rachel Albernaz had six kills and four blocks and Lilee Rodrigues had eight digs and five aces as the Craftsmen beat Norfolk Aggie 3-1 at home in MAC action.

Hannah Cronin led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-11, 0-9 SCC) with nine kills and four aces while Mary Kate Mello had 18 assists and Corinne Braga had 22 digs and six aces as the Falcons beat Durfee 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17) on the road in non-league action.

Jamie McLaren recorded a shutout in net for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-6-2, 1-3-0 SEC) as the Trojans played Whitman-Hanson to a 0-0 draw at home in non-league action.
