August Palmer, TaeVeon Stevens earn Press-Citizen's Athlete of the Week honors

Iowa City High girls basketball player August Palmer and Iowa City West boys basketball player TaeVeon Stevens were voted by readers as the Iowa City Press-Citizen's Athletes of the Week for Feb. 5-11.

Palmer won girls Athlete of the Week with 51% of the vote. Clear Creek Amana basketball's Ava Locklear finished in second place with 26% of the vote.

Palmer led the scoring efforts for City High in two of the team's three games from Feb. 5-11. Palmer scored 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field in the Little Hawks' 83-54 win over Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Friday, Feb. 9. She then scored 24 points and notched four assists in a 70-53 loss to Waukee Northwest on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Stevens earned boys Athlete of the Week with 37% of the vote. Iowa City High wrestler Kael Voinovich had 26% of the vote, finishing in second place.

Stevens had a strong performance in a 71-52 win over Cedar Rapids Washington on Thursday, Feb. 8. Stevens scored 22 points on 8-of-13 from the field. He also had the green light from behind the arc — making five 3-pointers.
