Auburn Morning Rush: Johni Broome reaches points milestone, Tigers miss on recruit

Happy Wednesday, Auburn fans.

Basketball is where this chronicle begins, and it’s a healthy dose of good and bad news. The good news is that forward Johni Broome has reached a career milestone in Auburn’s game against Winthrop, but the bad news is that Auburn won’t be making another addition to its 2023 recruiting class after officially making its first signing a few days ago. Additionally, there’s some Auburn news from the NFL — a former Auburn kicker is performing well and a former Tigers cornerback made the trip back to the Plains for A&M weekend.

Here is the latest for this edition of the Auburn Morning Rush:

Johni Broome hits 1000 career points

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn power forward Johni Broome has made a career milestone.

Broome reached 1000 career points during his performance against Winthrop on Tuesday night. Broome started his career at Morehead State before transferring to Auburn in the offseason. His 1000th point came on a layup in the paint off of an assist from forward Jaylin Williams.

Tigers miss out on 2023 recruit

The Auburn Tigers won’t be adding to its 2023 class.

The Tigers were listed as one of three final schools for five-star prospect Baye Fall, but they were beaten out by another SEC team. Fall committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks over both the Tigers and the Seton Hall Pirates. Auburn only has one 2023 recruit so far in the class in shooting guard Aden Holloway.

Auburn alum Daniel Carlson continues to impress

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn alum Daniel Carlson continues to be among Auburn’s most productive NFL exports.

Despite the Raiders’ loss to the Colts on Sunday, Carlson has still produced for his Las Vegas squad. Carlson is currently a perfect 100% on field goals this year, with five of those field goals coming from 50 yards out or longer. The only kick Carlson has missed this year has been an extra point, making him almost perfect in 2022.

Auburn alum Jonathan Jones returns to the Plains

Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

The Plains was greeted by one of its old football players last weekend.

Cornerback Jonathan Jones, who played for Auburn from 2012 to 2016, came back to his old home field to watch the Tigers defeat Texas A&M. Jones was a second-team All-SEC recipient in his 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Auburn Tigers.
