Auburn could be a potential landing spot for Denver Jones

With Auburn’s season coming to an end at the hands of the Houston Cougars in Birmingham on Saturday night, the recruiting efforts for the Tigers will only ramp up.

Denver Jones, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard at Florida International University, entered the transfer portal Monday, and Auburn is among the teams who have reached out to him.

In a tweet from On3 recruiting expert Joe Tipton, Jones listed the schools that have expressed interest. Other than Auburn, the list included many big-name programs including Arkansas, Missouri, Memphis, Miami, Georgia, Florida State and LSU.

Jones averaged 20.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Panthers this season. He shot 47.8% from the field and 37.1% from three-point range.

Jones is a native of New Market, Alabama. He played for Garden City Community College before heading to Miami to play with FIU.

It will likely be a big transfer portal year for Auburn as the Tigers only have one signee at this point: Aden Holloway, a four-star point guard and the No. 27 player in the 2023 recruiting class according to 247 Sports.

Guard play was one of the Tigers’ many inconsistencies in 2023 and landing Jones would go a long way toward helping the position get back on track. There could potentially be a lot of roster turnover this offseason, so there will be room for fresh talent.
