Attorney of Chiefs WR Rashee Rice releases statement regarding Dallas crash

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The attorney of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has released a statement, regarding a Dallas car crash he was involved in on Saturday, according to Adam Schefter.

3 people dead, including a child, in Northland homicide

The statement from Attorney Royce West reads:

“On behalf of Rashee Rice, his thoughts are with everyone impacted by the automobile accident on Saturday.

Rashee is cooperating with local authorities and will take all the necessary steps to address this situation responsibly. Any and all requests can be directed to his attorney Mr. Royce West of West & Associates, LLP.”

A Corvette believed to be registered or leased to Rice and a Lamborghini crashed on North Central Expressway at about 6:20 p.m., Saturday. Law enforcement confirmed with The Dallas Morning News that police were looking for him in connection with the accident.

Dashcam video captured by Bill Nabors shows those two cars weaving quickly in traffic immediately before that crash.

Rice’s involvement in the crash is currently unclear.

Dashcam video also shows the lead-up to the wreck on North Central Expressway with an approaching Lamborghini and Corvette losing control and crashing into the median and the other vehicles.

This caused the Corvette and Lamborghini to crash, resulting in four other vehicles to crash. Four people suffered minor injuries with two people going to the hospital. The other two were treated at the scene.

“The occupants of the Lamborghini and the Corvette all ran from the scene without stopping to determine if anyone needed medical help or providing their information,” according to a statement from Dallas Police.

Images provided to TMZ show a group of people walking away and leaving the luxury cars behind.

Attorney Marc Lenahan reviewed the video and says the actions of the people in those cars are in question.

“And it shows very clearly that the two cars were going very very fast on 75 right near University Park. And they first hit one car, then they hit the second. When they hit that second, then they turn it sideways and T-bone it. That’s the Corvette that does that. Our client is a passenger in that car that got t-boned,” Lenahan said.

The Dallas Morning News states that a Dallas police call sheet lists “Rice as the suspected driver of the Corvette.”

According to KDFW reporter Amelia Jones, Dallas rental company The Classic Lifestyle rented out the Lamborghini SUV involved in Saturday night’s crash to Rice. This was confirmed by West. The company policy only allows Rice to drive the car.

@Chiefs Wide Receiver Rashee Rice. Per company policy, only Rice was allowed to drive the car.

Rice is from the Dallas area and graduated from SMU. He was the Chiefs leading receiver for the 2023 season and set the NFL record for most playoff receptions by a rookie, catching 26 passes en route to a Super Bowl.
