These athletes earned all-region and all-state honors in Michigan

SOFTBALL

Michigan softball coaches high on Edwardsburg and Buchanan players for All-Region teams

Edwardsburg and Buchanan dominated the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association All-Region Softball Teams.

The Eddies, who finished 30-8 and knocked off defending state champ Lakeshore in the district, placed six players on the Division 2 squad.

Named from Edwardsburg were catcher Lani Hardin, utility player Samantha Baker, pitcher Emma Denison, who was named at-large, outfielder Lindsey Dalenberg, shortstop Caitlin Tighe and first baseman Averie Markel. Dowagiac outfielder Aubrey Busby was also a first team selection.

Hardin batted .529 with four homers and 33 RBIs. Baker hit .516 with a .576 on base percentage to go with 14 extra base hits and 27 RBIs. Denison slugged .504 with 11 doubles, seven homers and 48 RBIs. She also was 13-3 on the mound with a 1.20 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 111 innings. Dalenberg batted .417. Tighe hit .390 with 12 homers and 44 RBIs. And Markel batted .381 with 16 extra base hits. Busby, a junior, hit .475 with 20 doubles, five home runs and 43 RBIs for Dowagiac.

Buchanan, which ended up 38-5 and won its second regional title in three years, placed five players on the Division 3 squad in pitcher Hailee Kara, shortstop Hannah Herman, outfielder Caitlyn Horvath, third baseman Camille Lozmack and first baseman Cameron Carlson, who made it as an at-large player. Brandywine outfielder Julia Babcock and utility player Chloe Parker were also selected.

Kara batted .508 with five homers and 57 RBIs. She also posted a  22-4 record with a 1.52 earned run average and 168 strikeouts in 152 1/3 innings. Herman slugged .469 with four homers and 46 RBIs and 50 runs scored. Horvath hit .468 with 60 runs scored. Lozmack batted .378 with 35 RBIs and 47 runs scored. And Carlson hit .385.

Parker batted .532 with 29 extra base hits, including seven homers, and 41 RBIs. Babcock hit .446 with 39 stolen bases.

BASEBALL

Brandywine's Jamier Palmer, Drew Deming and Owen Hulett are All-State

Brandywine had three players named to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 3 All-State Baseball Team.

The Bobcats finished 25-7, losing a heartbreaking 10-9 decision in eight innings to eventual state champion Bridgman in the disrict title game.

Brandywine players selected were infielder Jamier Palmer, outfielder Drew Deming and pitcher Owen Hulett.

MHSAA playoffs: Brandywine baseball implodes, loses to Bridgman in extra inning

Palmer batted .525 with 44 runs scored and 55 stolen bases. Deming hit .404 with 37 runs scored and 36 stolen bases. And Hulett posted a 12-1 record with a 0.89 earned run average and 69 strikeouts and just 22 walks in 63 innings of work.

TENNIS

Brandywine's Abbie Hubbard and Chloe Sidenbender earn Division 4 recognition

Brandywine seniors Abbie Hubbard and Chloe Sidenbender earned honorable mention recognition on the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association Division 4 All-State team.

Hubbard and Sidenbender finished 22-4 while winning Lakeland Conference and Regional championships. The duo reached the Division 4 state quarterfinals while helping the Bobcats finish ninth as a team, the lone public school to finish in the top 10.

Hubbard ended with a 70-7 career record and Sidenbender was 44-5. Hubbard also earned honorable mention All-State recognition in 2022.
