Arsenal injury update: Takehiro Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus latest news and return dates

Arsenal hope to be boosted in the coming days by the return of a number of injured stars.

The Gunners have got their Premier League title bid firmly back on track in recent weeks, winning five matches on the bounce and scoring 21 goals in the process.

Big victories over West Ham and Burnley have come without the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who are close to being available again, while Fabio Vieira and Thomas Partey are both stepping up their recoveries from longer-term injuries.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is another player who could strengthen the Gunners ahead of their midweek trip to Porto in the Champions League, though Jurrien Timber is still out and a return is not imminent.

Here is your latest update of Arsenal injury news and return dates...

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Takehiro Tomiyasu has not featured for Arsenal since returning from the Asian Cup.

The versatile defender picked up a “niggle” while playing for Japan, according to Arsenal, and he was not named in the squad for the weekend win over Burnley.

The issue is not believed to be a serious one though, with Tomiyasu potentially in contention to feature in the Champions League in midweek.

Gabriel Jesus

Gabriel Jesus continues to battle a knee injury, having missed the last three games since starring in the win over Nottingham Forest.

Arteta insisted at the time that it was a a “short-term” issue, though there have been concerns due to the history of knee problems Jesus has had.

Like Tomiyasu, Jesus is believed to be close to returning for the Gunners and could be involved in Portugal.

Fabio Vieira

There is positive news when it comes to Fabio Vieira, who underwent groin surgery in November.

He has stepped up his recovery in recent weeks and it is believed to be included in the squad against Porto, as he closes in on a return.

“He’s very close,” Arteta said last week. ‘He’s been training already for a few days with the team.

“So I think it’s very close. He’ll be back probably faster than we expected and he’s in a good place.”

Jurrien Timber

Making his Premier League debut on the opening day of the season, Jurien Timber suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and has been on the sidelines side.

There is optimism that the defender will return before the end of the campaign, and he was has been named in the club’s squad for Champions League knockout stages.

“It was a huge blow,” said Arteta, when asked about Timber’s injury. “Everyone could see from day one what he was going to bring to the team. “The versatility, the quality, the leadership. And an ability that we did not have in the backline. It was a huge blow.
